Walk 1:
Rooftops of Marbella:
From the stunning Refugio De Juanar, we walk through gentle tracks in Olive groves and pine forests. Getting more difficult,
we climb towards the summit of La Concha, the mountain that forms the dramatic backdrop to the cosmopolitan port of Marbella,
with stunning views over the whole costa, including Gibraltar and the Riff mountains of North Africa. Continuing back down
the other side into a verdant valley of pines, leading to the pretty village of Istan, with fabulous views over the Rio Verde
valley.
Grade: Medium
Time: 3 to 4 hours
Walk 2
Into the forests:
Continuing from Istan, we follow easy forest tracks with views over unspoilt pine forests, with each corner presenting an ever
changing mountain vista. Although long, this is an easy, rewarding walk.
Grade: Easy
Time 3 hours
Walk 3
Los Sauces:
Starting at the pretty Los Sauces picnic area, our walk quickly presents us with typical Southern Spain terrain.
A broadly circular route brings us through the verdant Pinar mountains, on tricky, sometimes rocky paths. A good eye for
spotting where the track goes is essential. Various diversions exist to make this walk easier or more challenging as the group
decides. A well deserved picnic lunch awaits us at the end.
Grade: Medium
Time: 3 hours
Walk 4
TBD
Option 1: Rio Turon
Easy but longish route back to El Burgo via well defined forest tracks. Stunning views of the rio turon as it meanders through
the pine forest lined valley. It’s a gorgeous opal green , unless it has dried, common in Summer.
Option 2: Fuensanta to El Burgo:
Starting from near our picnic site, this route takes us over the mountain towards the tiny village of El Burgo. Once famed as a
hiding place for local Bandaleros, this hill top walk affords splendid views of Mt. Torrecillo, our target for tomorrow, and the
fertile Guadalhorce valley.
Grade: Easy
Time: Option 1 - 2 hours, Option 2 - 1 hour
Walk 5
Puerto del Saucillo to Enamorados:
The largest forests of Spanish fir (Pinsapo) in the Sierra De Nieves grow in the mountains above Yunquera, the village that provides the starting point for the days walk. The ascent through the forest to the "Rocks of the Lovers" forms the main approach from the east to the high mountain areas. From Puerto del Saucillo, we follow an easy track uphill, through increasingly dense forest. As we near the upper reaches, the woods thin, and the landscape takes on the classic karst form of the upper Nieves. Penon de los Enamorados (1775m) is a steep climb, with a need to scramble in parts.
Grade: Medium
Time: 2 Hours
Walk 6
Summit of Torrecilla and on towards Ronda:
Continuing on from Walk 5, this walk brings us to the highest peak in the Sierra De Nieves.
The steep 200m ascent will be rewarded by stunning views of the coast and surrounding mountains.
Care should be taken while descending, and then on to Puerto del Oso. We return to pine forests
for the remainder of the walk to Cortijo de los Quejigales and our pick up point.
Grade: Medium
Time: 3.5 hours
Walk 7
Across the Sierra del Endrinal:
This walk takes us across the Sierra Endrinal, whose broad limestone strewn meadows are very typical of the upper reaches of the Grazalema natural park. Along a stony goat track, we come across some deserted mountain cortijos, or farmhouses.
Grade: Medium
Time: 3.5 Hours
Walk 8
To the Salta Del Cabrero:
From the sleepy village of Benaocaz, we follow the route into the mountains, towards the "Goat herders Leap", a dramatic limestone formation that marks the midpoint and only difficult section of this easy afternoon walk in the high Grazalema park.
Grade: Easy
Time: 3 Hours
Walk 9
Puerto de las Umbers to Benamahoma:
Pleasant walk through nature reserve, where tourist numbers are limited. Steep descent as we head towards the picturesque village of Benamahoma, literally "The son of Mohamad".
Grade: Easy
Time: 3.5 hours
